Win Some or Learn Some
Per Jason Mraz song lyrics below to win some or learn some are are only two options in life. I suppose there are a couple of other options: To bemoan and complain about the raw deal we think we have been dealt or to just let depression paralyze us into inaction. I would rather choose option one or two above any day. And I figure if I am learning that I am actually winning.
The ole sadly comical adage (I guess that is an oxymoron): “Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory” are words many still choose to make their personal mantra. But that is not really living, surviving perhaps, or getting by, but not the abundant life we once intended to live.
I have read the end of the story and we win. Lying ego loses in the end and we win. Years ago a work mate who had followed the original Omen Trilogy at the movies, on A Monday morning excitedly told me about seeing the final chapter over the weekend. I stopped him in the middle of his recounting of the story with, “Let me guess, in the end Satan (alias ego) gets on his knees and says ‘You win.” To that my friend Sergio Casanova said in surprise, “How did you guess?” I told him that I had read the end of the book where it says, “Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He/She/We (the proper pronoun for the Holy Trinity) is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We always win in the end and along the way even if we do not seem to be winning we actually are for we are learning.
In today’s David Reads Children’s Books audio episode Raggedy Ann learns a lesson. The lesson for all of us today and everyday is simple, no matter what – we win.
