Above All Be Kind

I remind myself each day that I am healthy, I am happy, I am whole, I am patient, I am persistent, but above all I am kind.

Being kind and being nice are not considered macho and are thought to be signs of weakness. The are as Baby Oscar the Grouch learns in today’s children’s book reading just good manners.

I agree that perhaps some have gone too far with political correctness, or “wokeness” but it is equally true that others have lost all sense of civility and manners. Tolerance and compromise have become for many dirty and treasonous words. They are not but are indeed the backbones of what we once referred to as a civilized democratic society.

Nice and Easy, as Frank Sinatra crooned, does it every time. In the Beatles song Revolution are these words:

Forcing others to change or the world for that matter seldom works, rather violent movements usually result in swings like a pendulum from one extreme to another and back again. Real change more often comes in slow incremental movements that take in to account the concerns of everyone affected, nice and easy but above all kind does it every time.
