My Mother Loved To Read
One of the greatest gifts that she ever gave to me was the love of reading. My mother never traveled outside the United States and never saw even half of these fifty states, but in books she saw the world.
My wife like my mother loves to read and every night when he was little she read to our son. One of their favorite children’s books was the one I share today, “Are You My Mother?”
There is a special day in May that the greeting cards people came up with to honor mothers and to shame especially neglectful sons into doing something special for their mother at least one day a year. Sadly most of us do not really appreciate all the things that our mothers did for us until they are gone and how we wish we had made better use of all those missed opportunities to talk with her and to ask all those questions we wish we could ask her now.
I encourage you if your mother is still living to spend as much time with her as you can. You will be so glad you did. My mother has been gone almost twenty-three years and not a day goes by that I do not hear myself say aloud, “I love you, Mama?”
