Sometimes Life Is Scary Enough

Sometimes like children our fearful imaginations make life a lot scarier that it really needs to be. Like Mad Magazine’s founder Alfred E. Newman one of my mottos has always been, “What, me worry?” There are enough things that go bump in the night without filling our waking hours with ghosts and goblins as well.

I am of the mind that what we allow our minds to dwell upon most becomes our reality. One of our most beloved Presidents during a very scary time in this country and the world reminded us that we have nothing to fear but fear itself.

Comedian and political commentator Bill Mahr commented recently in the New Rules segment of his weekly show that we as a country have become so fragile that words have become so hurtful that even the term “trigger alert” has become a trigger of anxiety for some. Bill suggested that we should be more like Bruce Wayne who when he found out he was afraid of bats became Batman to overcome his fear instead of allowing his fears to limit his life.

What bigger, better, bolder lives we would all live if we would try each day to do one thing that we are afraid of doing. Pretty soon we would find ourselves fearless. The Bible says, “Perfect love casts out fear…he who fears is not made perfect in love.”
