The First and The Last Word
Someday, I will write my last blog, say my last word. I am mindful of that as I utter aloud each day a phrase from my mantra, “May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in my sight O Lord my strength, my rock, and my redeemer.”
Loving parents eagerly away baby’s first words and aging parents look forward to hearing their child’s voice again. Sadly so many words in between are not attended to with so much appreciation. Writers hope they will be read and that their words will live on long after they themselves have passed away. Whether that is true in my case or not will be for others to determine. For now it is up to me to be the editor and arbiter of my words and I endeavor to keep them entertaining, enlightening, and encouraging.
Heaven knows there are enough words already said and written that are boring, dark, and discouraging. Often when telling a story one has to share the sadder details to show how the light triumphs over darkness and despair. Many true life stories do no appear to end happily. But I believe that happily ever after is no fairytale ending but what the Universe always has in mind.
So if you find yourself in a dark place, a sad and depressing place take heart your story is not over yet. Brighter and better days are ahead as sure as day follows night and has since that first evening and morning was the first day.
My first words were probably mama and dada as they were most assuredly the first objects of my affections. A separate and shorter mantra that I have said for years as I look into my morning mirror is, “I love you, Mama. I love you, Daddy. I love you, Baby.” Lvoe is the first and the last word.
