Celebrating Firsts

Baby’s first step, baby’s first word, and love’s first kiss are all moments that we celebrate and long treasure. But often fear of the unexperienced and unknown seems to trump our spirit of adventure and exploration. Some are so paralyzed by the fear of what they might confront that they no longer venture beyond the safety of the tried and true.

Even at seventy-two years old I still long to meet people I have never met, to go places I have never gone, and to see and do things I have never seen and done. The joy and remembrance of so many firsts in my life only feeds the craving to experience more of them.

The line from the Lion King song Circle of Life still reverberates in my eager soul, “There’s far too much to take in here, more to do than can ever be done…” I hope heaven is only a rest stop between what I hope will be countless lives to experiences all the firsts again and again.
