Thank You For Being A Friend

Some are friends for a season, others like ships passing in the night, but a friend for a lifetime is a true delight. Silver, gold, diamonds, and rubies are precious, but none of the inestimable value of a friend.

I have been fortunate in this life to have had and still have many wonderful friends. As the little boy said to his introverted grandma who said she had trouble making and keeping friends, “Oh, that is easy mom, if you wanna have friends you just have to act friendly.”

Opening your heart to someone else is always a risk, but one worth taking to find a true friend. Painful as rejection can be, I agree with the Indigo Girls’ song that we are better off for all that we let in.

The little boy above arrived at his recipe for making friends by his own personal experience, but the Bible Proverb recorded that same recipe many many years ago, “He(or she) that would have friends must show himself (themself) friendly.” Elsewhere it is also written, “There is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.”

Friends are the family we choose. “Thank you for being a friend. Travel down the road and back again.”

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White
