Is Self Improvement Really Necessary?
One of my favorite lines in one of my favorite songs says, “I’ll clean up this act, but be worse than when I started.” That reminds me of so many who have had plastic surgery to improve their looks, but ended up looking far worse.
In the quality game “continuous process improvement” is the by-word but, anyone who understands how quality really works knows that you cannot inspect quality in, it must be built in. The inspector’s Bible reads, if you want something to improve measure it, but the true creators of quality know “Doing it right the first time” is how you get quality products and performance. As the kids say, “God don’t make junk.”
If you really want to see quality in the words of one of my favorite authors, Louise Hay, “Go Within.” Star Trek fans have memorized the mission statement of the Starship Enterprise, “Space the final frontier, these are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise, whose continuing mission is boldly go where no one has gone before…” I read someone recently who wrote for all the vastness of outer space, inner space has that beat for vastness.
There is so much more to you than the little conscious you. Your higher, bigger, better self, awaits discovery. Instead of trying to change yourself, I challenge you to get to know Who and Whose you really are. If you do, only then will the word Wonderful take on its real meaning “Wonder Full” for as the poet has said, “We are fearfully and wonderfully made.”
