Celebrate

My ole friend Doctor Tooth, the famous Muppet bandleader’s personal philosophy is one that I have also adopted as my own. He says, “There’s a party all the time for them that choose.” I confess that I have wasted a lot of good years on being too focused on being right to focus on the highest best goal of just being happy. Arguing is a skill that I learned watching my parents perfect it upon one another. Heaven knows there is much we are not likely to see the same way, but why can’t we just agree to disagree and as Bill, Ted and their friends from the future say, “Party On, Dudes.”

The song says, “Today, I celebrate my love for you” and that is the sentiment that should trump all arguments. I wish ill will to no one, not even my worst enemy and I have only one really, puny little ego, the little false god that I created myself to give myself the illusion of choice. Our only choice is to argue and drag our feet for the hound of heaven always wins in the end – “O, Love, that will not let me go, I rest my soul in Thee.” Such a patient and untiring love is always cause for celebration.

I can hear the Prodigal child’s father saying between shouts of joy and glad tears, “Get a robe, get a ring, kill the fatted calf, let’s party – my child is home at last.”
