A Wrinkle In Time, Chapter 3
From my boyhood I have been a great fan of time travel stories and movies. The nineteen-sixty movie version of H.G. Wells Time Machine with Rod Taylor, Alan Young, and Yvette Mimieux stirred my young imagination. The thought of even the remote and highly thought unlikely possibility of actual travel backward or forward through time is still fascinating to me.
Time and space travel is to me what this life truly is all about. Others wiser and more learned than myself have postulated that this dream we call life is but one of many we have all already experienced and are apt to yet wherein we find ourselves in this dreamscape where our thoughts create our reality. The Bible’s Genesis account of creation that I referred to a couple of days ago was, I believe a total fabrication from the minds of poetic men. The New Testament says of the Old Testament, the Law and the Prophets, that holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. Those words are interpreted by some to mean that all the Bible, by which they mean the cannon of Judeo-Christian scriptures, sixty-six books, is holy and without error in whole or in part and to be taken literally and obeyed to the letter. I once believed that myself, but now find it utter nonsense. Oh, I believe in inspiration, and that all books contain truth, but anything man has had a hand it must by nature be fraught with errors, typographical and interpretive.
A recent discovery of more Dead Sea Scroll fragments in Israeli occupied Palestinian territory shows the Old Testament experts say the way the words of the Bible have changed over time. As I have mentioned as a sort of disclaimer and at the same time qualifier, I grew up in a very narrow fundamentalist religious cult, but then so did many of us, being taught by our parents and grandparents ghost stories of a past that in all likelihood bore little resemblance to what actually happened, but then we would have to have a time machine to know exactly what did take place before we were born and in the first few years of our current incarnation.
Don’t believe the Bible words have been changed do you? Especially those of you who were taught and still believe that the King James Bible was good enough for Moses and it’s good enough for us. Far be it from me to try to convince you otherwise, if your mind is already made up. But take a look at current KJV Twenty Third Psalm rendering with a side by side of what the actual 1611 printing looked like. Surprised? Me too. We are always monkeying with the words. It is just what we do, trying to make sense out of our times.

So, yes, I guess I do believe in time travel and reincarnation and I am not referring to the canned milk produced by those very contented cows. That last is an old dated joke that probably only my peers might get or those who use old TV reruns and vintage advertisements and TV and radio commercials to do a little bit of time traveling themselves.
I hope A Wrinkle In Time will help you get your bearings as we traverse this time space continuum together.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
