Charlotte’s Web – Chapter 20
Today’s chapter details Wilbur’s hour of triumph and the culmination of Charlotte’s plan to save his bacon. Did you think I would miss the chance to use that familiar porker pun? Indeed not, but as the wider world of Fern’s state is being introduced to the Zuckerman farm’s famous pig Charlotte is preparing her swan song and coming to the end of her journey.
Whatever one believes about this life or the possibility of another after it, most everyone agrees that this journey has a beginning and an end the latter coming up for most of us too quickly, so quickly in fact that many of us face the end unprepared as if we had planned on living forever. I happen to believe that we do live forever but that we experience countless incarnations journeying ever onward and upward in life after life which is a much more exciting proposition to a traveling man like myself than some fluffy cloud filled harp playing sanctuary that some think the next life offers. I would soon be bored out of my gourd.
But then many act as if they are bored of their current adventure in this time space wonderland with almost infinite possibilities. It may sound trite, but I think as many before me and many undoubtedly will after that this life is what we make it. May the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be truly acceptable in our own sight and reveal to us that we are indeed individually and collectively our own lord and redeemer and as well that loving and infinite source from which all our dreams, lives, and journeys derive. However short or long, it is or at least should be wonderful to be alive. It is up to no one else but us to make it so, be we Wilbur’s or Charlotte’s.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
