I Can Make It Rain, You Can Too

I thoroughly enjoyed writing yesterday’s blog about a movie that I had seen the day before (two days really), Yesterday. I love that song and so many by the Beatles but this morning I am thinking of a song by Johnny Rivers, no not “Secret Agent Man” though I love that song and the one about the windshield wipers in the rain, but the one running through my head as I pursue the idea for this blog is I believe called “Seventh Son.” Johnny sings, “I’m a one, I’m a one, the one they call Seventh Son.”

I just Googled the song and just watched a young Johnny sing it again on a boat at the beach with lapping waves in the sand and sexy sixties dancing girls. My, you, what lovely sounds and sights from the past. I also looked at the lyrics. The song was written “I’m the one, I’m the one, the one they call Seventh Son” But Johnny, I think, perceiving a greater truth sang “I’m a one, I’m a one, the one they call Seventh Son.”

Seventh sons historically were thought to have especially magical powers. Anyone having seven children these days would need those special magic powers just to be able to remember which was which. My mama had only two that lived but come infraction time it was roll call time, “David, Robert, Robert, David, you stop that this instant.” Johnny lists several of those magical powers in his song, predicting the rain, but one of the lesser ones, along with heal the sick, raise the dead, and make the little girls talk out of their heads. Sounds a bit like Jesus, and by the way you immaculate conception fans, Jesus had several brothers and sisters according to the Book, big families being quite popular in his day if not so much today. Dave, must you poke fun at every religious myth while promoting birth control? Well, yeah, I am after all an equal opportunity myth buster. Believe what you will, my BS is no more valid that anyone else’s. As Justin Hoffman’s character in the movie Hero told his son trying to explain religions, “There are all these layers of BS and we just pick the layer we want to believe.” Or we can just stay open and see what proves itself to be true for us.

I made a big claim in the title today that I still believe to be true – that I have the power to make it rain and so do you. We can start a fire and we can make it rain, among just two of the many miracles in our big bag of tricks. Some of us do it all the time, oh, no, not that little puny ego self but that big, good/bad, higher self. Our conscious self is but the tiny tip of the far bigger iceberg that is us, far more creative and useful for way more than sinking the Titanic. Would you like his/her phone number, this really cool girl/guy’s? It is in the book. Some call it God’s phone number (but is your number too), JH (for Jeremiah)33:3. Sounds sort of like Hee Haw’s Junior Samples phone number, easy to remember, BR-549. Another couple of verses size up the whole calling out process, “You have not because you ask not” and “Ask whatsoever you will, believing, you shall receive.”

Some Secret, really, never hidden, always right before our eyes. We are the door, what’s behind it, and the key. Or as a wise women once sang, “I’ve been all around the world, but I’ve never been to me.”

Your friend, fellow traveler,

And miracle worker, I did after all, get you to read this far,

David White
