The Lightness Of Being
After yesterday’s rather “heavy” topic I thought I would offer up a little lighter fare today. Sometimes life can seem heavy handy when almost always a lighter touch gets better more long lasting results. As I have mentioned in this blog several times, I carry in my right pant pocket where I keep my change and my keys a little medallion to remind me in case I should forget – Who and Whose I truly am.
You see I meet many people who would like to line me up, advising me we with “Do you know what you should be doing?” or lines such as that when knowingly or unknowingly what they really want is to pigeon hole me or put me back in to this or that “tiny box.” I am reminded of the words of one that many of them call Saint Paul, author, some believe, of much of the New Testament
“Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. … Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the … Freedom we have–Christ has set us free!” Gal. 5:1
As I said yesterday Christ means anointed and as he was so are we in this world.
The heart-shaped silver colored medallion in my pocket says on one side: “I am Holy. I am Whole.” And on the other side it reads: “Thank you for this day, Spirit.” It is very light in my palm taking up the space and feeling as light as two quarters.
Holy is a term that many religious people banter around. I think Whole is the best most complete definition of Holy. The holy, holy, holy God of the Bible, the Talmud, the Koran and many other books is whole, complete, some think consisting of three personalities in relationship. If we on the other hand even display two distinct ones we are diagnosed schizophrenic. And yet He/She and We are like diamonds – gods of many faces.
Well, even this lighter piece is becoming a bit heavier than I intended it to be. But that is okay as any awareness or knowing of Who and Whose we really are must include “the exceeding weight of glory” that such knowledge brings.”
You may keep your pretty boxes, boxes the burden of which confines no one can long bear. Free I am and free I intend to stay with the knowledge that none of us can fit into any box no matter how big it may be, for we are too, the entire Universe.
Listen carefully and you will hear as Jesus and his disciples did, “This is my beloved child in whom I am well pleased.” You are not “broken” and do not need now nor ever did need a “savior” for you were created Whole and Holy. Say it with me, “Thank you for this day, Spirit.” Whose spirit? Your spirit, our spirit – One Spirit.
King David after his great mess-up with Bathsheba, after trying to make her husband believe their baby was his baby, killed Uriah when that plan failed, and they ended up having to have a funeral for that child. In the fifty-first Psalm he asked for forgiveness and wrote, “Take not Your Holy Spirit from me.”
Where there is life there is Spirit and their is hope, love, joy, and peace. Do you know who and whose you are? There is only One. Feel like floating? You can, just let go the weights that hold you down, remember who and whose you truly are. If I could I would give you this medallion to carry in your heart.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
