Easy Being Green
Kermit the Frog not withstanding I would say in many cases that it is not only easy being green but that it can be down right fun. Being “in the green”, “loaded with dough”, “flush with cash” is easy and fun enough. And if by green you mean “new, fresh and innocent as a new born babe, that especially to a titty-lover like myself looks like quite a bit of fun too.
Surely Kermit has it all wrong in his song about it not being easy to be green. Unless, of course, he means by green not “rich” or “new” but “different” or “other”, then it makes perfect sense because none of us wants to be left out, considered less than or strange by anyone.
And yet often those of us so treated or hazed when we arrive at a position of power and leadership and could change those sad traditions often do not but continue them even embellishing them making them even more hurtful and horrible. “Beloved, these things ought not to be so.” The love within us needs to be allowed to grow till no one is excluded and our circle grows bigger and bigger till it takes everyone and everything in.
I have quoted it often but I will here again,
“He drew a circle that shut me out-
Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.
But love and I had the wit to win:
We drew a circle and took him In!”
by Edwin Markham
Instead of walls and tiny boxes, how we need bigger and bigger circles till we all realize that the One Great Circle takes us all in – the Universe.
