Never Looking Back

How often the words of another inspire us, though those same words may take us in an entirely different direction. “Never looking back” are just such words to me. I think we probably spend way too much time looking back to the past or forward to the future and thereby missing the only real time of our lives – the eternal moment, now.

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of themselves and their countries, women, boys, and girls too, everyone of us. The time is now. I have a plaque, several of them really, hanging prominently to remind me of thoughts to especially dwell on. The one I am thinking of now reads, “Live (Stay) In The Moment.” Dionne Warwick sang and the Mockingbird does here that, “A fool would lose tomorrow looking back to yesterday.”

I’ll Never Love This Way Again.

Truly we will never pass this way again but just as truly I believe that our todays spring from the seed thoughts we planted yesterday. While it is important that we enjoy this magic moment, how well and consistently we do that does and will determine, I think, how our tomorrows will turn out. In that way more than any other we are responsible for what is happening now in our lives and ought to be enjoying each moment to the max for we made it for ourselves.

It is a place that many if not most of us struggle to get to – this place of owning complete responsibility for the world we live in. We need to do it, for it is a world of our own creation. We made it by the thoughts we thought yesterday. Not happy with your world? Design, dream, think up a bigger, brighter, better one for your tomorrow. And though that may sound like I am being glib, I am not for I mean it seriously and soberly, as serious and sober as Crazy Dave ever gets. We are the masters of our fate the authors of all we survey. I took some liberties with that quote but the meaning is still the same – we are responsible, in charge. If we know what got us here we equally know how to change it. We are not victims but victors, not prisoners but pioneers exploring all the possibilities.

Instead of a trauma-drama, a tragedy, or even a mystery we can choose, to make our life-long live production a musical, a romantic comedy, or at least a fun farce. Life is indeed meant to be fun and in the words of the Star Trek Next Generation’s Captain Jean-Luc Picard, “Make it so.”
