Why, I Think, I Have It Made
I realize that some of the things that I think, say, and write might seem crazy in this often seemingly insane world but, I think I have it made for I have made my world a heaven by my own thoughts. I believe that we all create our world by our thoughts, our words, and our deeds and mostly in that order. One of the Old Testament writers penned, “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.” This is, I think, true of the world that he/she sees around them too. I do not believe in a literal hell but by our thoughts we can make the world around us seem a virtual hell. Hell, many of us were taught, is a place of punishment. Ego would at the same time promise us pleasure beyond belief but actually make us feel so guilty for supposed wrongs and sins that we no longer enjoy this life but punish ourself in a thousand ways far more brutalizing than a burning hell. Do not listen to that loud-mouthed puny little ego but instead to the still small voice that says, “You are lovable, loved, loving, and altogether lovely.” There is no more true judgement here or hereafter.
We are taught to believe in a life of law and order but what we really desire is a life full of love and grace. There are but two laws (three really – love, love, love) and one rule worth considering (with two Do(s)no Don’t(s)):
1. Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength (Atheists, if that is a problem for you just love your higher self).
2. Love your neighbor as you Love yourself. (Do you see a theme here? – Love yourself).
1. Do unto others as you would have them Do unto you.
It is very important what we think and do. Neither I, nor anyone else, have the right to tell anyone else what to think. We can only share our best thoughts that have produced the most joy in our lives, making our life a virtual heaven. Do we have disappointments, troubles, aches and pains? Sure we do, but when we do, we have only to think a better thought and look for the gift in even those darkly wrapped packages that come to all of us.
A New Testament verse I love says, “Many have entertained angels unaware.” I confess, the first time that I read that as a boy that my mind wandered to thoughts of angel’s underwear. Ha, heaven on earth indeed. I have it made, heaven in my heart, in my thoughts, I’m my words, and in my deeds. What in the heaven are you occupying your mind with?
