Why, it seems like only yesterday it was Monday past. Time flies when you are having a good time, sometimes even when you are not. My beloved wife, Linda, begins her long drive back to Houston, Texas from Cheyenne, Wyoming today. I am so glad and grateful that she loves me enough to drive so far to see and be with me. Over the six and a half years that I have been a traveling contract inspector for the Oil and Gas Industry she has made it up and over to see me on most of my assignments. She did not make it to Detroit, Michigan; Kenai, Alaska; Chesapeake, Virginia; Laramie, Wyoming; Naperville, Illinois; or my two overseas assignments to Ravenna, Italy and Aberdeen, Scotland. But the list of places she did make it to is longer:
Little Rock, Arkansas
Lone Rock, Wisconsin
Richland Center, Wisconsin
In 2018 we got to have two whole months together in Bemidji, Minnesota. I was off a the whole month of November with her in Houston, Texas, our home. And she made it up to Cheyenne to spend New Years Eve with me and these past two weeks as well.
I am fortunate and grateful to have such a good wife and she has put up with a lot over the years from me and still she stuck around. I am not sure whether to call that all “loving devotion” or a big part of it just stubbornness but I have no right to accuse anyone of that one. Who knows the real and complete reasons for anything we do, no even ourselves much of the time, but I can say sincerely as I have been saying now for over thirty-one years and counting, “Linda Lee Stokes, I love you, and I am so glad you took a chance on me and that you still are continuing to do that.” Would everyone had so dear a friend and so tender and determined a lover as my Strawberry Girl.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
