Vivid Dreams, Seeing What Others Do Not, The Enlightened Vs. The Crowd

Dave, that is a pretty long title, hope you can keep this blog short. I do know that I have a tendency to get a little wordy as Luke Skywalker’s comment, “Like my father before me.” My dad was a wonderful story teller and his was a vivid imagination and a vivid dream. I heard more than one person say that my daddy marched to a different drummer but I have come to believe that he was his own drummer and piper (he marched to and danced to his on drum and tune) hence his vivid stories, vivid life, and vivid dream. Since I have used that word vivid several times I suppose I should define it so you know exactly what I mean by it.

The dictionary defines vivid as:

—adjective

1 strikingly bright or intense, as color, light, etc.: a vivid green.

2 full of life; lively; animated: a vivid personality.

3 presenting the appearance, freshness, spirit, etc., of life; realistic: a vivid account.

4 strong, distinct, or clearly perceptible: a vivid recollection.

5 forming distinct and striking mental images: a vivid imagination.

Take that and add to it “lucid” and you will see what kind of stories, life, and dreams I am talking about, the kind that I think we all want to experience.

The dictionary defines lucid as:

—adjective

1 easily understood; completely intelligible or comprehensible: a lucid explanation.

2 characterized by clear perception or understanding; rational or sane: a lucid moment in his madness.

3 shining or bright.

4 clear; pellucid; transparent.

But I have also heard the word “lucid” used to refer to dreams that we control and not just walk hardly waking through them. Aren’t the former the kinds of stories, lives, and dreams that are truly worth telling, living and dreaming – vivid and lucid?

I have a dear and beloved friend with a Beautiful Mind like the brilliant mathematician in the movie by the same name played by Russell Crowe. Like him she sees things and persons most of us cannot but as my friend Joy Shimmers wrote answering the question, “Is everything illusion?” The answer is a resounding, “Yes.” So whose particular illusion are you going to buy? Child of a great big boundless Universe that I am, I am for buying, picking, and believing the most fun, exciting, and encouraging one – just like my father before me, huh Luke.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White
