A Brand New Key

I, like many of you, grew up in a very sexy ambivalent society at the same time expressive and repressive, open and quite closed. Whatever are you trying to say, Dave? Spit it out. It is my opinion that many of us have such great problems with sex and guilt because of our messed up view of both which for many of us in the western world is just a residual of the sexual repression of the Victorian age. You cannot blame the Bible for this one folks, only some very narrow interpretations of it, for the Bible has a wide variety of sexually stories that make it pretty plain that people in times past had a much healthier attitude about sex than most of us at least here in the U.S.

I believe sex to be one of the greatest gifts in the Universe’s great bag toys. And not just, I might add, meant for making babies, though all the pleasure is certainly conducive to keeping the race alive. In all of nature we see sex displayed, sung and danced in living color, and surround sound. My, what a wonderful, and magical dance it is. I sill marvel that at any given moment around this beautiful blue ball literally millions of couples are doing it. No wonder this big ball keeps spinning and whirling through space, no subtle influence all that sexual motion, and life and the beat goes on as Sonny and Cher so sweetly sung once.

When I was a teen and just becoming aware of as the French say, “Vive la difference.” There was a sexually thrilling little song, sung and written by Melanie Safta called “Brand New Key.” I have changed it from a girl singing to and about a boy to a boy singing to and about a girl so I can sing it for you. Well, some of you still sexually repressed souls may not think this song very appropriate and yet others of you song critics may just not care for my voice but there you have it – young people discovering a brand new key to health and happiness. And one of the most played with toys in the box – pun intended. Good for them and lovers every where. As I already said, I believe sex is one of the greatest gifts of all, it keeps us looking for something in “the other” and gloriously and pleasurably finding it. “It” “sex” is a journey of self-discovery. That’s right, the male and female principle, abides in all of us, hence our ability to find it innately in ourselves no matter our sexual persuasion the understanding and ability to find it in and to pleasure ourselves and the other. Everyone of us indeed has a brand new pair of roller skates and a brand new key. Do have fun getting together and trying them out, you’ll see.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

Skating through life, and you wondered why I am always smiling,

David White
