The Highest and Best

In my daily affirmation, toward the middle, I state the following disclaimer:

“I make these and all my intentions for the highest good of the Universe, myself, and all people everywhere.”

When I was a Christian we used to say “Thy will been done,” meaning by it that if our higher power saw that what we were asking for might be detrimental to the Universe, ourselves, or anyone to just disregard those requests.

This runs counter to the “dog eat dog” or “me and mine to hell with the rest” business and political philosophy of the world. When The poet John Donne wrote, “Each man’s death diminishes me,” he was stating that we are all connected, therefore when one is hurt we all hurt. That includes the poorest to the richest.

We should pray, intend, hope and live ever expressing our desire for the highest and best for all.
