A Word of Warning 

The story goes that during a storm once on Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana just north of New Orleans that a boat ran into a section of the elevated road that crosses the lake taking out a section of the roadway. A fortunate driver saw the accident and was able to stop his vehicle before plunging into the lake. He got out of his car and began waving his arms trying to warn northbound traffic that the bridge was out. Several cars failed to heed his warning and plunged into the lake until finally he was able to stop enough cars to block the road till help arrived.

What would you think if you saw a man standing in the pouring rain in the middle of the road waving his arms? Would you think him crazy or criminal? Perhaps, but fortunately finally enough people heeded his warning and and stopped and so doing helped to minimize the tragic loss of life.

The majority of the American electorate believe that “the bridge is out” and that the way ahead is perilous. On November 3rd, less than two months from now, the mid-term elections will determine the fate of democracy as we know it. The unchecked corruption and demolishing of the institutions that have made us a great nation must be stopped and reversed. The Constitution gave Congress, the Legislative Branch consisting of the House of Representatives and the Senate, the power of the purse and the responsibility to keep the other two branches of government in check. For the last almost two years Congress has not done its job yielding again and again to government not according to law, but by Executive Orders. And the Supreme Court for the most part has been complicit in this power grab by the Executive Branch.

Many of us are not just hoping, but are standing in the middle of the road franticly waving our arms hoping to stop enough travelers to prevent the whole country from plunging over the edge. November will reveal how successful these desperate measures have been. Exercise your franchise – Vote!
