Sunshine and Rain
Pleasure and pain. Life is a balance of light and dark, abundance and stark. The rich wish to shield themselves and their children from this reality of life, but all the fame, money, and power in the world cannot change this truth. The Yin Yang, the Universal symbol, depicts this principle graphically. In the bright side is a speck of darkness and in the dark equal side is a speck of light. To experience wholeness we much accept them both – the bright blessed day and the dark sacred night.
Death is a part of life. One goes out and one comes in. All relationships are but for a time, short or long they all end with one left behind mourning the loss of the other. Over and over life reminds us not to hold on too tightly and still we forget and lose ourselves so completely in the other that we are all, but devastated when they leave us. Healthy relationships are not comprised of two halves, but two wholes. To paraphrase a favorite song lyric, We must remember this a kiss is just a kiss, the fundamental things apply, as time goes by.” And the fundamental things about relationships and life itself is that they are temporary.
We are individually holy and whole, made up of equal parts light and dark, positive and negative. Maintaining our balance means realizing we are a at our best a mixed bag.
