Thank You For The Gift

Linda’s first words after her agonizing fall Sunday evening were, “I think I broke my hip.” Yesterday the Emergency Room doctor after x-ray, and CT confirmed that diagnosis and she is scheduled for surgery this morning. Any movement involving disturbing her left side was excruciating, but the pain medications enabled her to rest through the night. Except for a brief time when Yolanda, Linda’s longtime friend, sat with her in her ER room while I got something to eat in the hospital cafeteria I have been right by her side.

Linda and I have shared this adventure in time and space for thirty-seven years as a couple and hope to for years to come. The way ahead seems especially rocky, but the support of family and friends is especially encouraging. Many have reached out with kind words and Linda and I are especially grateful. At this time Linda’s brother Jack is also in the hospital in South Carolina with serous medical issues. We ask that you remember him as well and our family.

The nearest thing I can share in the way of a prayer is a portion of a daily affirmation that came to me some years ago as the seed thought for my daily mantra: “I am so glad and grateful that everything that I could ever want or need is already mine and coming to me at just the right time and in just the right way from my loving and infinite source.”

None of us asks for trouble or pain, yet they come to us all. Sometimes it is hard to see the gift in challenging situations. “Life is a gift, that’s why they call it the present.”
