Attempts To Rewrite History

I copied this article that I saw on Social Media regarding a great lie that attempted to rewrite the reason half a million soldiers died and many more were maimed for the rest of their lives during the American Civil War. Slavery was the reason,  the states’ right to protect the rights of some people to own others. 

Generations of southern white people since the Civil War have bought into the great lie of The Lost Cause. This lie was the basis of Margaret Mitchell’s best selling book and the 1939 movie made from it, Gone With The Wind. The myth of a great civilization of cavaliers and ladies that was gone with the wind.

In recent years there has been perpetrated another Great Lie on the American people and an attempt to rewrite history. January 6, 2021 a mob of people attacked the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. attempting to overturn the Presidential election results. They believed the election had been stollen even though there was never any reasonable evidence of voter fraud.

The man responsible for that lie pointed that mob at the Capitol Building and encouraged them to fight for him. His first official act when he was sworn in for a second term in January 2025 was to pardon all the convicted January 6th rioters, many of whom had confessed to their crimes. He still says publicly that he won that election though the facts are clearly against any such claim.

Jim Crow laws perpetuated the lie of The Lost Cause. MAGA which should more accurately be understood as Make America Anglo-Saxon Protestant Again has propagated the more recent great lie about The Lost Election. In every Senate confirmation hearing for this administration the Democrats ask the nominees the same question, “Who won the 2020 Presidential election?”

It is comical and even painful to watch folks who owe their political futures to the “Con Man In Chief” try to avoid answering that one question with so obvious an answer. As surely as we all, red, brown, yellow, black and white, know that the Civil War was all about slavery. As surely as we know O. J. Killed his ex-wife and her lover, we all know beyond a shadow of a doubt who won the 2020 Presidential election – Jeffrey Epstein’s best buddy.

Many true believers of The Lost Cause and The Great Lie are beginning to reconsider their support of these fallacies.
