Today

We spend too much of our lives as time travelers revisiting the past or trying to imagine future scenarios that may or may not ever come to pass. The only time we have is now. The Apostle Paul purportedly wrote: “Today is the day of salvation.” Now is truly the only time there is of any consequence. The past is only useful if we learn from it not to repeat past mistakes. And the future is only useful as a rough outline for long range goals. The old adage goes, “If you want to hear God laugh, just say, ‘I’ve got a plan.” For as another famous quote goes, “The best laid plans of mice and men have often gone awry.”

Try to avoid living in the past or the sweet-bye-and-bye. The nasty-now-and now is not nearly so nasty as we might imagine. Today is the place where we can indeed be the author of all we survey the captains of our fate.
