One More Day

On this day thirty-seven years ago Linda Lee Stokes and I, David James White, stood before a Justice of the Peace in a Harris County Courthouse in Houston, Texas and took our vows before the judge and witnesses to be man and wife. It was my fourth marriage and Linda’s first. We are still together after all these years and that itself is a tremendous feat in these times when there are so many distractions and divisions that would pull or push two people apart.

Linda and I have weathered more than a few storms and life being what it is I am sure there are more ahead. I am so glad and grateful that we get to go through this life together. Linda told me way back then that one of her favorite poems was Robert Browning’s “Come grow old with me, the best is yet to be.”

Each day I have gotten to share with Linda Lee has proven the poet, the prophet, correct on that score and leaves me wishing still for One More Day.
