The Hundred Acre Wood Revisited
A year ago I wrote a blog about a young man’s vision and an old man’s dream. A year before that my son had showed me a sixty acre tract of timber land that he had purchased in Bon Wier, Texas about a hundred and twenty-five miles northeast of Houston. As we drove and walked over the property he shared that he hoped to one day add forty more adjacent acres. He said that he had made several offers to buy from his neighbors, but that he had gotten no responses. I asked him if I could help him, that maybe they would be more inclined to sell to an older man like myself.
In the two years since I was able to buy three tracts of land next to his, leaving the total between us just shy of four acres less than one hundred acre goal. My son in the last several days has negotiated a deal on the acreage needed to realize his vision, my dream.
The writer of the book of Ecclesiastes writes, “Your young men will see visions and your old men dream dreams.” The classic Winnie the Pooh Stories are set in a place called the hundred acre wood where a boy named Christopher Robin has fun with a host of animal friends including Winnie the Pooh and Tigger too.
Someday I hope my son’s daughter, almost three now, will get to have adventures of her own in the hundred acre wood that her daddy and poppa envisioned and dreamed into being.
