In the Eye of the Beholder
Beauty, they say, is in the eye of the beholder. Just what is it that catches our eye, captures our heart, and makes us say, “This is the one.”? Even when we are unsuccessful in wooing, winning, or holding onto that one still we know that the one who got away is and will always be the great love of our life.
If you have not seen The Age of Adeline, I highly recommend it. After you have I think you will agree how inexplicably the attraction of love can be and how lasting its pull. So much so that in this movie a young man gives up a career in medicine, becomes an astronomer, discovers a comet and names it Del after the great love of his life, Adeline, the one who got away after briefly crossing his path and changing the course of his life forever.
But what is it that we see in another that perhaps no one else can see that causes us to instantly or in some cases not right away, but over time become painfully aware that a life without them in close proximity will only and ever be less than we hoped it could be?
Today’s picture pun is meant to make us laugh. And yet to see what I call “the God spark” in another or even ourselves requires us to look deeper than the best set of eyes can penetrate. We must behold them with all our faculties especially that one we call the heart that more accurately should be called our subconscious or intuitive mind. Love is not rational, it does not add up for is more than numbers more than words.
As is beauty, love is in the eye, the heart, the mind of the beholder, the lover. When you love someone, truly love someone, you see them and your self for who and whose we truly are.
