Wilder Tower, One of the High Points of My Life

One of the earliest pictures that I recall of myself was taken from atop Wilder Tower. I was just a wee little guy looking up.

The Chickamauga Battlefield is located just south of Chattanooga where I grew up. As early as twelve my neighborhood buddies and I were allowed to bike there unsupervised and on those adventures we would stop about midway at Gibson’s Grocery near Fort Oglethorpe for sodas to quench our thirst and fortify us on our journey.

The Chicamauga Battlefield is a National Park and in addition to the Museum the park has many Civil War Monuments to the soldiers who fought and died there, Wilder Tower is the tallest and most striking of those and was and still is a draw to locals and tourist from all across the country and around the world.

Wider Tower has been one of the high points in my life. As a lovesick young man I recall driving there alone more than once and walking up the many steps to the top and scanning the three hundred and sixty degree scenic view, hoping to get a new perspective on life. I have proudly shared that view with the four women that I married. My mom and dad took me there as a child and I took my daughter and my son there as well.
