Rainy Days and Mondays
As I sit trying to think of an idea for my daily blog I hear the rain begin to beat upon the roof and it comes to me – Rainy Days and Mondays. The daily news is enough to get anyone down, but Mondays and rainy days have always had the opposite effect on me and for the same reason – they both promise a fresh and a clean start.
Politicians for years have promised to clean up Washington, to drain the swamp, to end government corruption, and in the words of my late out spoken father, “They have done a piss poor job of it.” I, for many years have rejected the Christian faith I was raised in. My Christian friends would not like like my dad’s quote, but I would remind them that the war God portrayed in the King James Version of the Old Testament was quoted as telling the invading children of Israel “to kill everyone who pisseth against the wall”, all the men and boys. Women and girls were just considered property to be used and sold. The Trump/Epstein Class and wannabes still seem to think of women and girls in that same way.
There is a young state representative in Texas running for the U.S. Senate, James Talarico, that has a lot of Christian Nationalists running scared. His brand of Christianity is quite different from theirs. I was worried as I always do when politicians start talking about what good Christians they are. I usually follow the advice that I heard a Mississippi politician say about what he did anytime someone bragged about being a good Christian, I put my hand on my wallet.
When I saw James Talarico asking for five dollars, I thought, just another Christian passing the plate to enrich himself. But then I heard several big Democrats saying don’t give James Talarico money he will get plenty, instead to give it to other Democratic candidates who need it more. That encouraged me that like Mondays and raining days perhaps a great new, fresh and clean start is on the horizon, a blue wave to wash away much of the dirt, decay, and political corruption in Washington.
“It could happen!”
