All That We Let In
A year before her death, five days after her thirty-second birthday, my daughter Emily sent me the last of her famous Father’s Day mixed CD’s. I did not listen to it right away, but when I did one song in particular, and they were all exceptional choices, appealed to me. Emily loved music and was so good at picking songs that she knew I would love. The Indigo Girls song, All That We Let In, is just such a song. In the days months and years since her passing it has been a great comfort to me.
Next month it will be fourteen years since Emily took her final bow on this stage, exiting stage right for a bigger better venue, I believe. Music was her gift and those of us who heard the little girl who sang her song to anyone who came along were touched by her sweet voice that still vibrates in our hearts and minds. She took us in and we her and we were all made us better for the transaction.
