Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Many develop a habit early in life of continually rehashing past tragedies and mistakes and imagining the worse outcomes tomorrow. They thereby rob themselves of much happiness today. There are calamities and upsets that have befallen and continue to us all, still I believe that worrying is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Perhaps you have heard the story of the woman who went to the doctor for thirty years worrying that she had cancer only to hear the doctor after running exhaustive tests say, “You are cancer free.” On her thirty-first annual check up she was again convinced that she had the disease and the doctor finally confirmed her fears and she said, “See I told you.”

If not cancer, most assuredly something is going to take us out. I have requested something fast and relatively painless, yet I refuse to allow worry about what may happen tomorrow or regrets over what might have happened in the past rob me of happiness today.

Don’t be a worrywart. Don’t worry, be happy.
