Here We Are Again, At The Beginning
At the beginning of the new year many people make and soon break their New Years Resolutions. Try something a bit different this year, instead of resolutions try intentions. The ole saw says, “The way to hell is paved with good intentions.” I don’t believe an eternal burning hell awaits our best intentions or even our worse, but I do believe that we are the captains of our fate and control our own destinies.
How exactly do we do that, Crazy Dave? You ask and I answer – by the words of our mouths and the meditations, i.e. intentions, of our hearts. I like to change one word in the prayer, “May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.” That word is thy to my. Also for a little alliteration I usually insert between my strength and my redeemer the two words – my rock.
Jesus once told Simon Peter after Peter answered his question, “Who do you say that I am?” With, “You are the Christ the son of the living God.” “Upon this rock I will build my church.” Some mistake his meaning to be that Peter as the first Bishop of Rome was the stone on which the Christian Church was to be build. Peter, the new name Jesus had given to Simon, literally translates a little stone. Jesus in the answer to Peter’s proclamation was literally “You are a little stone but upon the Rock of the words of your mouth I will make something. We are told that the Great Creator spoke into existence all that is. I believe, “This is the day that the Lord and I have made. We will rejoice in it.”
I also believe in the little exchange that Jesus and Peter had above that Jesus was trying to get Peter and us all to realize that Peter’s quick answer was true not just of him, Jesus, but us all for we are everyone “the anointed divine child and co-creator.” I am not kidding when I say, “You hung the moon, and did a pretty fine job of it.” I can hardly wait to see what you (we) can make of 2023.
