The Week Before Christmas
Shopping for the big day is in high gear as many are checking off the long list of names on their Christmas gift lists. This Thursday the Houston students will be out of school for the Christmas break, that “most wonderful time of the year.”
I learned as a young child that anticipation is a very big part of the thrill of Christmas. My mom loved Christmas and always made a big deal out of it for her boys. Several Christmases when we were little she worked evenings at a five and dime store to earn extra money to buy our Christmas gifts. Dad’s work in construction was always slow right before Christmas, so he was home to look after his two sons and make supper for us. We had some very interesting meals. Ha
The five and dime stores became dollars stores and Mom and Dad have been gone many years but I still get excited before Christmas. It is still if not the most wonderful time of the year, high on the list. As the Big Guy says as he rides out of sight, “Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.”
