Maintaining An Attitude Of Gratitude
Counting our blessings is not just a good way to fall asleep and have sweet dreams, but it is also a wonderful way to wake up and to live our daily lives. Maintaining an attitude of gratitude is the secret to the good life which consists not in focusing on the big picture or on what we may seem to lack so much as in being glad and grateful for what we have.
The law of attraction states that what comes to us is in response to the frequency that we send out. An attitude of gratitude is always the highest and best frequency to be broadcasting and like an echo in the canyon what we broadcast finds its way back to us.
In the classic Orson Wells film Citizen Kane, the mystery that is only revealed in the final frames of the movie is the meaning of the rich man’s dying word, “Rosebud.” All his money and power never touched him so much as the gratitude in his heart for a Christmas gift he received as a boy. Some say our entire life passes before us in the moment of our departure from this life, a sort of taking stock, figuring out finally what mattered most, the persons, places, and scenarios that we are most glad and grateful came to us.
I say why wait till that last moment. As the song says, “When I’m tired and I can’t sleep, I count my blessings instead of sheep. I fall asleep counting my blessings.” I repeat here what I said at the start, it is also a great way to insure sweet dreams, a glad morning, and days full of wonder and delight.
This is the day that the Lord and I have made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.
