Signs Of Halloween

My five most favorite holidays as a boy growing up were Halloween, Thanksgiving, my birthday, Christmas, and New Years Eve. Thanks to the merchants convincing President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to change the Thanksgiving date from the last Thursday in November to the fourth Thursday in November Thanksgiving has actually been observed on my birthday several times.

Halloween always falls on the last day of October, the thirty-first, the day before my mother’s birthday. My dad’s birthday coincided with the first day of winter on December 21 so beginning with Halloween our family had a longer holiday season than most.

Children love Halloween. What’s not to love about free candy? It is always worth risking a few frights for those sweet delights. On our morning walks through the neighborhood my wife and I marvel at the great expense some of our neighbors have gone to decorating their homes for Halloween. We can hardly wait to see what they will do for Christmas.

Happy holidays all.
