Why So Many Choose The Blues
Years ago B.J. Thomas sang, “Hey, won’t you play another somebody did somebody wrong song, to help me feel alone while I miss my baby.” The Southland they say gave birth to the blues. Grieving our losses or trying desperately to deny them is not just a southern tradition, but a nationwide and worldwide one it would seem. We are all like the sad little girl, Judy Garland, “searching for a blue bird in vain.”
Still, I pose the question, “Why do so many people choose the blues?” Judy Garland also sang, “Forget your troubles, come on get happy.” One of my all-time favorite duets is Judy Garland singing that song while Barbara Streisand is singing, “Happy Days Are Here Again.”
I share a YouTube link to the song here for you. My constant wish for each and all is that even if we must choose the blues let it be blue skies, blue bells, and blue birds. I choose to believe happy nights and happy days are here again. It certainly beats the ole everything is going to hell in a hand basket misbegotten mythology.
