The Long And Winding Road

The nineteen sixties “Free Love” idea was about enjoying the good times without sticking around for the not so good times. But true love shines brightest when times are tough. Someone has said there is a brick wall awaiting all of us, but lovers knows that how it ends is the least of our worries for life is always full of daily challenges for those who dare to love. Instead of love being some sort of bridge over trouble waters it is rather a long and winding road that meanders right through the sticky middle. Everything that can go wrong usually does and medals and trophies for heroism above and beyond the call off duty are seldom if ever sought nor awarded for loving.

True and lasting love are not for the faint of heart nor for day trippers. True love is an ultimate and life-long commitment, you know the kind where if you are not thinking you need to be committed you aren’t giving it your best effort. Anyone who thinks a fifty/fifty love commitment has any real chance of success just does not understand the math at all nor human nature. It takes a hundred percent commitment, diligence, and vigilance by both parties to insure a successful love relationship and even then outside forces sometimes succeed in pulling apart even the best most committed relationships.

It is perhaps too early in the morning for my sleepy head to take on such a deep and heavy subject as this, but then fools, poets, and lovers do have a tendency to rush in where angels fear to tread. I recall a story about a guy who wrestled with an angel, refusing to let go till he got a blessing. Even after suffering an injury, that every after affected the way he walked, he would not loose his grip on the angel till he was blessed.

True love is like wrestling with an angel, you know you are going to get hurt, but if you hold on you are bound to become a blessing as well as get one.
