Boys Worship Their Moms
My mom passed off this stage by her own hand almost twenty-three years ago. She still lives in my heart and that of my brother. Though as to every rule there are exceptions it is still a truism that boys love and worship their moms. It was once said that the three most beloved words in the English language are heaven, home, and mother.
Like it is for most little boys, my mama was the first great love of my life.
Her’s was the first civilizing influence in my life. Without the influence and warmth of a mother’s love this would indeed be a cold and cruel world. Abraham Lincoln once said, “All that I am or hope to be I owe to my Angel mother.”
Sometime after my mother’s untimely death I looked through the many letters that I had written to her and selected a few poems that I had written in them to her for a tribute to my mom. Thanks to my son scanning the little book I wrote for her I can today share them and my Angel mom with a wider audience. Alene Florence Davidson White was and will forever be one of the brightest lights in the sky to me.
