Truth In The The Information Age
To keep the story simple, neat, and tidy the chroniclers of history refer to epochs or ages i.e. The Stone Age, The Bronze Age, The Iron Age, The Industrial Age. Most histories are written from the majority or winning view point like Supreme Court decisions and give the somewhat false impression that anyone in disagreement with the standard line is a purveyor of “fake news.”
From time in memorial there have been those who re-wrote history to make themselves or their particular heroes or household gods into the one true God. Today in the so-called Information Age that has not changed only the speed with which the story changes and the multitude of ways and means of packaging and spinning the story. History has always been so much more propaganda that fact. A real education is about teaching people how to think not what to think, teaching them to dig through all the competing information and find the truth.
Politics, religion, and even science have often been gullible and guilty of towing the line and being too slow to change even in spite of overwhelming evidence. Truth is as stubborn and determined as the flower that always finds a crack even in concrete to take root and to bloom.
The old adage says, “When the student is ready the teacher or master will appear.” Each of us, I believe, is born with a deep desire to know and to live the truth. Satan is often referred to as “A liar and the father of lies.”
I believe the only enemy of our souls and of the truth is ego, that man-made creature that would rather climb a tree to tell a lie than to stand flat footed on the ground and speak the truth.
It is not politics, religion, or science that will save us and set us free but truth, whenever and wherever we find it. Here’s to the never ending search for truth.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
