My Favorite Color
What is your favorite color? It is a question we are often asked by those wanting to get to know us, as if there were some great secret to our psyche hidden behind our choice of a favorite color. I do not think there is. Many people answer blue, I used to, but I suppose that if I had to give and answer it would be “rainbow” that split light through a prism burst of color.
When I was a boy in Sunday School we used to sing: “Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world.” I am glad they added “brown” to the song because I supposed there are more brown babies born into this world than any other color, more brown eyes than blue, more blue, than gray, green, or hazel.
One of my favorite Christian songs from years ago said: “He’s a poet, he’s a painter, he’s a natural rainbow maker.” So yes, if I must name a favorite color it would be “Rainbow.”
