Better Together

For two people to walk a path together for very long requires an encouraging word that too many have come to think is a “bad” or “dirty” word. The word is compromise and it is not a “dirty” word but a very encouraging word. It means you are willing to learn, willing to change, willing to become a better more evolved version of yourself, as well as willing to let others have their own experiences and to share in them as well as they your own.

It is only those who are wrongly convinced that they are always right or that there is only “one way” that refuse to compromise. The end result of this inability to compromise means that you will most likely die alone or worse be forever at war trying to prove yourself “right.” I have, I confess, like Don Quixote, spent way too much of my life tilting at windmills, but I have come to believe it is more important to be happy that it is to be right. The expression “happy wife, happy life” goes for all the relationships in our lives too.

If you would have happy and life-long lasting relationships you must be willing to compromise, to let others have their way from time to time. Let them choose the movie, the place to eat out, the way there and back. There are many ways to get from point A to point B and the least fun or enjoyable is alone. Life is so much better and happier together.
