Light Shines Brightest In The Dark

It is in the hard times, the darkest times, that our true nature is revealed both to ourselves and to others. We are children of light, created to shine, to brighten our own pathway and that of others. As a testimony to his cousin, Jesus said upon hearing of the death of John The Baptizer, “We rejoiced for a while in his light.” And Jesus warned us elsewhere, not to allow our light to become darkness.

We have it seems one over-arching purpose and that is but to shine and brightly in the darkest places. Jesus, who often spoke in parables, not to make the truth more clear, but to hide it so we would have to tap into our own inner light to find it, said plainly, “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify God who is in heaven.” He called himself the light of the world and said the same of us.

While a sunny day is indeed blessed, the night is also sacred. The gifted voice of singer Ray Charles who became blind as a boy and spent the rest of his life in darkness shined in that darkness as he sang, “The nighttime is the right time to be with the one you love.”

My favorite words of Jesus again: “Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart soul mind and strength, and love your neighbor as you love yourself.” In a word, “Shine” with that glow that let’s others know – You are in love.
