Rainy Days And Mondays

This is perhaps one of the rainiest Mondays that I have awakened to in quite sometime. Unlike Caren Carpenter’s famous song, rainy days and Mondays do not get me down for I love rain and I love Mondays. I also happen to believe in the power of love to transform. Love comes in many forms. The ancient Greeks knew this so they had four different words for love, which were used in the New Testament that was originally written in Greek and Aramaic:

It is no great stretch to find something to love about even the seemingly most unloveable elements of life. Want to transform how you feel about that most difficult person to love in your life (Usually ourself)? It is easy just begin to see that person through the eyes of love.

If you or I can learn to love ourselves we can learn to love anyone or anything. Jesus said that all the commandments could be summed up in three. Most preachers interpret his words as two new commandments, but if you read closely it is actually three:

“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbor as you love yourself.” Three loves: Your God, Your Neighbor, Yourself. Three in One as God Himself/Herself is said to be. I no longer believe in the angry God of the Old Testament nor even the blood demanding God of the New Testament. I have come to see the One True God as my highest, best self, your highest and best self, the highest and best in each and all of us. What’s not to love?

The plainest words in not just all of the Bible, but in all of the books considered holy by all of the different religions is: “God is love.” There are as many definitions for love as there are the literally billions of faces of Love, of God, in this world today.

As I write this, it is still dark outside where I am on this beautiful blue ball and the rain is coming down hard and loud. It has only been Monday for a few hours, but all is right with the world for I, we, each and everyone of us is apart of the One God, the One Love, that defines and transforms us all.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White
