I Wish You Love
It has been a long, long time since I slept through the night only rising once to pee. Like many older men “I frequent the facilities often” and my sleep is usually interrupted often throughout the night. But, don’t cry for me Argentina, for I go back to sleep easily and have since I was a young soldier in Basic Training fifty three years ago actually enjoyed waking during the night looking at my illuminated wrist watch and realizing I still have hours of lovely sleep ahead.
Sleep is one of those blessings we all take for granted till something robs us of it. Usually the culprit is not a midnight or other times urgent visits to the toilet, but a restless, troubled, and an unsatisfied mind. The phrase from another song just came to me, “I’m richer by far with a satisfied mind.” As I thought of writing about being grateful for a good night sleep this morning, a wonderful song from an equally wonderful move, The Lake House, came to me. Here are the lyrics in full and the wonderful smoky voice that in my humble opinion sings it best. Of the many things that I wish you is a good night’s rest. “But most of all when snow flakes fall, I wish you love.”
