Doing The Best We Can…

…Where we are in our adventure in time and space with the understanding that we have of Who and Whose we are. Now that is a mouthful. We are so quick to judge ourselves and others as “less than” when the true-true is that we are far more than our best efforts, and so very much more than our less than award winning performances.

There is in the Book of Books, in the New Testament, in the Book of Acts Chapter Three a story of a lame beggar whose friends daily laid him at the Temple gate called Beautiful to beg for alms. When Simon Peter, on his way to Temple saw the begging man he said, “Silver and gold have I none but such as I have I give you, in the name of Jesus rise up and walk.”

I am a wordy guy, like my father before me, and am seldom without a few words to say. But, I found myself speechless twice yesterday in response to two different, but equally sad situations. I felt like one of Job’s three friends that we, I think wrongly judge for just sitting and staring at him in his darkest time for three days without saying a word. Is it not possible that they too were just doing the best they could where they were in their own adventures in space and time with a less than complete and clear knowledge of Who and Whose they were.

The best gift I have to offer anyone is not to try to be their “sole provider”, their “hero”, their “savior” but to be just another imperfect reflection in the mirror for them and myself of Who and Whose we actually are. We can whenever we choose wake up from this fever dream of want and wandering. We of our own volition chose this path to see where it might lead for awhile, once upon a time, but somehow we got caught up in our own imaginations and forgot like Dorothy Gale from Kansas that we always have had within ourselves the GPS (God Person Sense) that we need to find our way home.

We all like to lend a hand where we can, but must remember to allow others to have there own experiences and to find their own way. I still say that it is good to keep in mind that everyone, ourselves included, are just doing the best we can…

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White

Wishing each and all the highest and the best. As a small folding glass saying that the great love of my life gave me reads: “If my wishes were granted, (and they are) yours would all come true.” No need to be careful what you wish for, just try to remember to always pick the highest and the best.
