Yesterday, was one of those challenging days where my interpretation of a particular New Testament verse proved just the encouragement that I needed to accomplish the task at hand. The King James translation of that verse reads, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.” Christ is not really a name but a title and I think even more a principle. It means anointing or the anointed and refers not only to Jesus, but to all of us for we are indeed kings and priests with a double divine anointing.
The dictionary definition of anoint follows, play close attention to the last two meanings:
The way I interpret the above verse is that I can do all things through the anointing that reinforces me.” We are both within and without divinely reinforced and need only remember Who and Whose we are to tap into reserves of strength, wisdom, and love that are more than adequate for any situation.
Midway through a very taxing four part written exam that took me five hours to complete I heard nasty little ego, my arch and only enemy, whisper, “You can’t do it.” But just at that moment I heard another voice reminding me, “I can do all things through the anointing that reinforces me.” The still small voice of calm assurance and encouragement is always the one to listen to and I did. The end result was I did complete the four parts of the exam, passed with flying colors, then went on to complete three hours of practical hands on examination to get the certification card required to be able to perform my work assignment in Nebraska.
Some look forward to a retirement life with no more challenges and I admit the idea looks attractive, especially when facing a particularly difficult challenge, but a life without challenges is not really to be found in this time and space jungle. I prefer to just trust the reinforcing anointing that enables me to meet every challenge with the only outcomes being to win some or learn some.
Enjoy the challenges.
