A Wrinkle In Time, Chapter 8

Two-thirds of the way through this fascinating book and we already know that Charles Wallace is going to be the hero. There is a hero in all of us just waiting for the opportunity to shine. Today watch for those little opportunities to show your stuff, to be all that you can be, and indeed are.

Some think only the especially beautiful and gifted deserve to be seen, heard, and awarded the place of honor for their efforts. Much is said of the nineteen-nighties practice of awarding every child who played a trophy as if that were some kind of great travesty, as if everything is a competition and like in The Highlander movies, “There can be only one.” Maybe so, but in the best and highest sense, I believe, that we gloriously are all One.”

I recall a chorus I heard, many years ago now, that had a deeper meaning to me then and now than the limited meaning that the Christian crowd I hung with then thought and perhaps still thinks it did:

“We are one in the Spirit

We are one in the Lord

And we pray that our unity

May one day be restored.

And they’ll know we are Christians (His children)

By our love, by our love

And they’ll know we are Christians (His children)

By our love.”

Love is the family business and the Father has marked all his children not just one sect or the other. God is all in all, in everyone and everything, and He/She/We are One. And as the McDonald’s folks used to say, “I’m Loving It.”

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White
