Charlotte’s Web – Chapter 16

The title of today’s chapter is Off To The Fair. The plan by Charlotte to insure Wilbur a safe and healthy long life is all coming together and as the A Team’s commander used to say, “ I love it when a good plan comes together.”

Every morning now as I begin my predawn bike ride I whisper as a prayer to the Universe the following:

“My heart and my mind is open

My arms and my hands are open

My mouth, ears, and eyes are open

To all the Universe has for me.

“I am so glad and grateful that everything that I could ever want or need is coming to me at just the right time and in just the right way from my loving and infinite source.

“May the words of mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in my sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.

“I mirror you.”

As a religious boy I grew up in a very narrow fundamentalist cult and was taught that reciting memorized prayers was wrong and that impromptu prayers were more sincere. Therefore I heard and made many a rambling and unrehearsed or well thought out prayer request. I now believe that there is nothing at all wrong with repeating well crafted words be they prayers or public speeches. We should respect the time of others, especially the beloved and divine, and give thought to our words before we speak them.

I am a wordy guy and I come by it naturally as my father was to say the least long winded in fact he had a reputation for holding court and not allowing anyone to as the saying goes to get a word in edgewise. I try to keep the seeming rudeness of that in mind and am always rehearsing, rewriting, and trimming down remarks that I hope to share on those rare but wonderful occasions that I get to spend time with my almost thirty one year old son, Jonathan. He has a very full and busy life and except for this last year I have spent the last almost decade working on the road. My time spent with him is especially precious to me as any parent knows.

How many ways can one say, I love you? I believe there are at least ten thousand. Hence my target of 10,000 blogs. In a little over a month I hope to accomplish the first fifth of that goal on or about Jay’s thirty first birthday. I have ask him as I have all my friends and anyone that I speak to for more than a minute or two to follow my blog. Most are too busy with their busy lives or just uninterested. Still every morning for the last almost six years I faithfully give it my best shot trying to polish that entertaining, enlightening, encouraging word. Maybe someday someone will discover this body of work and appreciate these labors of love I have committed not for fortune or fame but just trying to leave something behind. I hope that Jay will be one of them and you too. I hope for a long time to come to remain at my self appointed post as –

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White

Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me

P.S. A friend and faithful follower of this blog wrote me recently, “You ought to write a book.” I have already, in fact two. But this is my book, one chapter a day for the rest of my life. Follow along if you like.
