Charlotte’s Web – Chapter 13

Good progress is something that we all can aspire to as Charlotte does in today’s chapter. Like the Blues Brothers in the comedy movie by the same name she is on a mission from God, but then aren’t we all whether we realize it our not. Whether we consider ourselves conscripts or volunteers we are here to accomplish something and perhaps to leave something behind.

I watched again another classic film from the nineteen fifties yesterday, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, starring the lovely Elizabeth Taylor as Maggie the Cat, Paul Newman as her unwilling husband, and Burl Ives as Big Daddy.

The words Bull and Mendacity are used as synonyms and bantered about a great deal in the movie. The dictionary defines mendacity:

It does seem at time that life is all bull and mendacity, but it is not for there is truth and it rings out true above of all the competing clatter for there is a still small voice of reason and sincerity and it says clearly, “This is the way, walk in it.” Religion and politics aside there is indeed a higher calling and we are most happy, most content, and making the most progress when we are heeding that voice.

Charlotte found her calling and it was what she was made for and most suited to accomplish. Each of us can as well. To quote one of Elvis Presley’s lesser known and probably justly so songs, “Stop, Look, And Listen, Baby.”
